Internet retail giant Amazon (AMZN) reported blowout earnings yesterday, with strong numbers on its Kindle electronic book technology impressing many.

AMZN continues to be the dominant player in the "click-and-mortar" sales biz ... they seem to offer virtually every product in the world through their site and their various partners.

The big bump in the shares pushed AMZN to an all-time high (see the following chart).  What is interesting here is that AMZN is now above even the levels of the "Internet Bubble".  This shows that well-run, innovative companies will thrive no matter what the economic or market situation.

Personally I would say that for a long-term technology holding, I rate AMZN a "Buy".   Disclsoure, I have no current positions or recommendations in AMZN.

A quality financial title came into our offices recently, it has just been released by the leading financial publisher Wiley & Sons.

The book is "The Small-Cap Investor;  Secrets to Winning Big with Small-Cap Stocks" by Ian Wyatt, Chief Investment Strategist of SmallCapInvestor.com.

Wyatt takes a more fundamental approach to investing & trading then we generally do, but he provides quality information in his new book. There are case studies of successful small-cap stocks that made massive gains for investors, and a breakdown of why traders and investors should have part of their portfolios in small-caps.

He provides an 8 step process to screen for small-cap potential winners, and gives specific instruction in breaking down and evaluating the balance sheets and earnings reports of companies.

There are also quality chapters in the book on the basics and logic behind technical analysis and market timing, but the chief value to BigTrends readers will be in finding the big names of the future through incorporating trend, sector and fundamental analysis into analyzing small-caps.

Finally, there's a nice appendix which provides 20 tough questions to ask yourself when evaluating a company.

The bottom line is that "The Small-Cap Investor;  Secrets to Winning Big with Small-Cap Stocks" is a quality addition to investors and traders libraries.  The book is very reasonably priced, and is not overwhelming in terms of complexity and depth so that anyone from a beginnner to an advanced investor can use it.  Thumbs up!
