The markets and national media have been very critical of the body of work (or lack thereof) from the first year of the Obama Presidency. As last week's selling showed us, traders believe that the Obama Administration's vision for improving the struggling economy is uninspiring and often downright concerning. Why are we talking about politics? In short, regardless of your political affiliation, you always have to be aware of the role that politics plays in market sentiment.

Tonight's State of the Union address will be closely dissected by traders as they seek to determine President Obama's plan for bringing America back from the economic abyss. This fact is not lost on voters, as the historically Democratic state of Massachusetts voted a Republican to fill the senate seat vacated by the late Ted Kennedy. The thought of this would have been unheard of during the 46 years that he served in Washington. Because I was raised in Kentucky, college basketball is a way of life. My Beloved Wildcats have been terrible for the past few years, but they were able to reach the #1 ranking in the country with an undefeated 19-0 record. They were back on top of the mountain and it seemed that nothing could get in their way. And then, President Obama came along and decided to call them before last night's game in Columbia, South Carolina.
What followed was the first loss of the season for Kentucky and lots of people hoping that the President stays away until after the Final Four. I have never been one of the vocal critics of the Obama Administration, but when he encroaches upon my team's undefeated season, the gloves must come off. So on behalf of the entire wildcat nation, I beg you Mr. President, turn your focus to creating jobs and getting the US Economy back on track and leave my wildcats alone!
